Hello,
My name is Dawn and I live in a small farm community in Indiana. I have about two acres of land and a big barn full of poultry, goats, rabbits and quail. We are getting set up to breed great pyrenees, livestock guardians, next spring.
After living in the city for 20 years I longed to be back in the country where I grew up. I wanted to follow my dream of living in the country. So I packed up my son and we moved to where I grew up as a little girl. My son is learning how to farm right along beside me and well, let's just say, we learn a lot from our mistakes! *smile*
I am a professional by day and a farmer by night. During the day you will see me in professional attire, nails painted, jewelry, etc... at home I have my hair up in a pony tail, my muck boots on, and some cut off shorts to go out and work in the barn every evening. It gives me great peace and relaxation to be a part of nature. We take care of our animals and they take care of us; it's a win win.
How did I start on this journey? A lot of people ask me that. I was going to Indiana Wesleyan University taking their online courses to get my Master's degree in Science Management. As a part of the curriculum we were learning about all of the companies that are going green both nationally and internationally. I really started to research "going green" at that time. Well going green started, first with changing our cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and some organic foods, to really looking at sustainable living. Which took me back to my roots in the country. I had never owned a chicken before but I KNEW I wanted chickens for some healthy farm fresh eggs! And so it began... the story of the rest of my life. It has been a great journey that I am still on and I would love to share it with others just like you!
